For the past hunderds of years, the relationship between teachers and students was vertical. That means the teacher had power, he had authority and he was the only with knowledge and his role was to pass it to the students. The students were to work individually, and were passive.

Nowadays, Students want a different kind of relationship. They want to be recognized, they want to participate and share their knowledge. They also prefer groupwork. That means the teacher must rethink the way he teaches. He should not be the one in front of the students, but rather with them, acting like a coach or a mentor.
The teacher-student relationship has changed and we have to adapt to it !
